The Indiana Association of Nurse Anesthetists, a public professional organization, provided additional information on nurse anesthetist activity in Indiana. According to the CPA, Barger practiced under the direction and supervision of Dr. Collip; Barger paid Dr. Collip for his surveillance. Dr. Collip admitted that he knew that Barger`s patients could be put at risk if he did not do what he was asked to do under the CPA. He knew that he had an obligation to ensure that Barger adequately supplied his patients, including prescription care.
Although Dr. Collip was not interested in ownership of a clinic or job, his name appeared with Bargers at the top of the clinic`s pre-printed prescription forms and on the clinic`s stationery. [3] The Indiana General Assembly has adopted a complex and detailed legal system allowing nurses to provide medical services. In the language of status, we conclude that one of the objectives of this legislation was to improve public access to affordable health care. Parliament also wanted to ensure public safety by requiring that nurses be supervised by a licensed physician when prescribing legendary drugs.
